AX 15836 is a small molecule that inhibits the transcription factor TGF-β activated kinase (TAK1) and has been shown to have synergistic activity when combined with ipatasertib, an inhibitor of the TGF-β receptor. AX 15836 is orally bioavailable and can be used for the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis. The drug has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo by downregulating the expression of genes involved in cancer cell proliferation. In addition, it has also been shown to reduce inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production in a microenvironment. This agent has not been tested in pediatric patients but is effective for adults.
