Clindamycin-Hydrochlorid ist ein Antibiotikum, das zur Klasse der Lincosamide gehört und hauptsächlich zur Behandlung verschiedener bakterieller Infektionen eingesetzt wird, insbesondere solcher, die durch anaerobe Bakterien und bestimmte Protozoen verursacht werden. Es ist wirksam gegen Hautinfektionen, Atemwegsinfektionen und einige Arten von Knocheninfektionen. Die Substanz erscheint als weißes bis schmutzig-weißes kristallines Pulver, das in Wasser und Methanol löslich ist, jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in organischen Lösungsmitteln aufweist. Seine chemische Formel ist C18H20ClN2O2S und es hat ein Molekulargewicht von etwa 343,88 g/mol. Clindamycin-Hydrochlorid wirkt, indem es die bakterielle Proteinsynthese hemmt und so das Wachstum und die Fortpflanzung von Bakterien verhindert. Es wird häufig oral oder intravenös verabreicht, abhängig von der Schwere der Infektion. Zu den Nebenwirkungen können gastrointestinale Störungen wie Durchfall gehören, und in seltenen Fällen kann es zu einer mit Clostridium difficile assoziierten Diarrhö kommen. Aufgrund seines Wirkmechanismus und seines Aktivitätsspektrums ist Clindamycin eine wertvolle Option zur Behandlung von Infektionen, bei denen Penicillin unwirksam oder kontraindiziert ist.
