2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzyl-a-D-glucopyranosyl chloride is a cholic acid derivative that is used as a bile acid. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of gallstones and other conditions involving hypercholesterolemia and cholesterol gallstones. 2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzyl-a-D-glucopyranosyl chloride is synthesized by coupling acetyl chloride with 2,3,4,6 tetra O benzyl a D glucopyranoside. The acetate group is then removed to form the desired product.
