It is an agonist of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ion channel and has been shown to have biological properties in skin cells. Nordihydrocapsaicin binds to TRPV1 receptors, causing depolarization and pain sensation through activation of ion channels. The physiological effects of nordihydrocapsaicin are determined by its concentration, which can be increased by adding acyl chains and capsaicinoids. This chemical compound has been used as a model system for studying genetic mechanisms with regards to fatty acid metabolism.
