Beschreibung:

Ameisensäure, mit der CAS-Nummer 64-18-6, ist die einfachste Carbonsäure, die durch ihre chemische Formel HCOOH gekennzeichnet ist. Es ist eine farblose, stechende Flüssigkeit, die hochgradig in Wasser, Alkohol und Ether löslich ist. Ameisensäure hat einen Siedepunkt von etwa 100 Grad Celsius und einen Schmelzpunkt von etwa 8 Grad Celsius. Es ist bekannt für seine starken sauren Eigenschaften, mit einem pKa-Wert von etwa 3,75, was es zu einer schwachen Säure macht. Ameisensäure kommt natürlich im Gift von Ameisen und in einigen Pflanzen vor und wird in verschiedenen industriellen Anwendungen eingesetzt, unter anderem als Konservierungsmittel, antibakterielles Mittel und in der Lederproduktion. Darüber hinaus dient es als Reduktionsmittel in chemischen Reaktionen und wird in der Synthese verschiedener Chemikalien verwendet. Aufgrund seiner ätzenden Eigenschaften muss Ameisensäure mit Vorsicht behandelt werden, da es bei Kontakt mit der Haut Verbrennungen verursachen kann und schädlich ist, wenn es eingeatmet oder eingenommen wird. Auch seine Umweltauswirkungen sind zu berücksichtigen, da es zur Versauerung in aquatischen Systemen beitragen kann.
