Kaliumfluorid (KF) ist eine anorganische Verbindung, die durch ihr weißes kristallines Aussehen und ihre hohe Löslichkeit in Wasser gekennzeichnet ist. Sie besteht aus Kaliumionen (K⁺) und Fluoridionen (F⁻), die eine ionische Bindung bilden. KF wird häufig in verschiedenen Anwendungen eingesetzt, unter anderem als Flussmittel in der Metallurgie, in der Aluminiumproduktion und in der Synthese anderer Fluorverbindungen. Es wird auch im Bereich der Zahnmedizin aufgrund seines Fluoridgehalts verwendet, der zur Vorbeugung von Karies beiträgt. Die Substanz hat einen relativ hohen Schmelzpunkt und ist hygroskopisch, was bedeutet, dass sie Feuchtigkeit aus der Luft aufnehmen kann. Obwohl Kaliumfluorid in kontrollierten Mengen allgemein als sicher gilt, kann es in größeren Mengen aufgrund des Fluoridions toxisch sein, das biologische Prozesse stören kann. Applications Potassium fluoride is used as a catalyst in the Aldol condensation of nitroalkanes (e.g. 1-Nitrohexane [N496125]) and aliphatic aldehydes (e.g. 2-Propyl Valeraldehyde [P838325]). Potassium fluoride is also used as a reference standard for fluoride ion activity in analytical samples. Potassium fluoride is also found in dental products, and is thought to be toxic in high amounts.
