Beschreibung: Acenaphthen ist ein polycyclischer aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoff (PAH), der durch seine verschmolzene bicyclische Struktur gekennzeichnet ist, die aus einem Naphthalenring mit einem zusätzlichen fünfgliedrigen Kohlenstoffring besteht. Er erscheint bei Raumtemperatur als farbloser bis blassgelber Feststoff und hat einen charakteristischen aromatischen Geruch. Acenaphthen ist relativ unlöslich in Wasser, aber löslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Benzol, Toluol und Ether. Sein Schmelzpunkt liegt typischerweise bei etwa 81-83°C, während sein Siedepunkt etwa 280°C beträgt. Diese Verbindung ist bekannt für ihre Stabilität und Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Oxidation, was sie in verschiedenen Anwendungen nützlich macht, einschließlich als Vorläufer in der Synthese von Farbstoffen, Arzneimitteln und anderen organischen Verbindungen. Acenaphthen ist auch im Steinkohlenteer enthalten und kann während der unvollständigen Verbrennung organischer Materialien produziert werden.
