2-(p-Tolyl)propionic acid is a bromic chemical compound that binds to the 5-HT4 receptor. It is used in the treatment of chronic pain and osteoarthritis, as well as for the management of acute pain following surgery. 2-(p-Tolyl)propionic acid has been shown to be more potent than other drugs in its class and has a low incidence of side effects. This drug can be administered via oral, parenteral, or topical routes with equal efficacy. 2-(p-Tolyl)propionic acid is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver to form p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is excreted in urine. The drug also blocks chloride channels and potassium ion channels, inhibiting cellular depolarization and leading to inhibition of pain.
