It has also been reported that trichostatin A induces apoptosis via a histone-modification independent mechanism in oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines. Initially discovered as anti-fungal compound from Streptomyces hygroscopicus for the control of fungal infections caused by the genus Trichophyton.
