• Beschreibung: Cromolyn disodium salt is a drug that belongs to the class of drugs called cromoglycates. It is used to treat asthma and chronic cough. Cromolyn binds to the protein guanylate cyclase, which inhibits the synthesis of cell signaling molecules called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). It also has a direct effect on mast cells, preventing histamine release and stabilizing the cell membrane. Cromolyn also blocks the action of histamine-releasing factors such as acetylcholine, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes. This drug has been shown to be effective in treating both asthma and chronic cough when given in conjunction with other drugs such as benzalkonium chloride or budesonide.
