Beschreibung

Salinomycin is a drug that inhibits the transport of drugs into cells by binding to P-glycoprotein (P-gp). It prevents the efflux of cytosolic calcium and blocks polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in cancer tissues. Salinomycin has been shown to inhibit mouse tumor growth and to induce cell death when administered at high doses. Salinomycin also inhibits mitochondrial functions, including iron homeostasis and glutathione peroxidase activities. Salinomycin binds to cellular proteins and alters intracellular Ca2+ levels, leading to cell death.
