Descripción:

El hidróxido de potasio (KOH), también conocido como potasa cáustica, es un compuesto alcalino fuerte caracterizado por su forma sólida y blanca, que es altamente soluble en agua, lo que resulta en una reacción exotérmica. Es higroscópico, lo que significa que puede absorber humedad del aire, y se disocia fácilmente en soluciones acuosas para liberar iones de potasio (K⁺) e iones hidróxido (OH⁻). El KOH se utiliza comúnmente en diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo como una base fuerte en la fabricación química, en la producción de biodiésel y como regulador de pH en varios procesos industriales. También se utiliza en la industria alimentaria como aditivo alimentario y en la producción de jabones y detergentes. Debido a su naturaleza cáustica, el hidróxido de potasio puede causar quemaduras químicas severas al contacto con la piel o las membranas mucosas, lo que requiere un manejo cuidadoso y medidas de seguridad adecuadas.
