Anfotericina B

Descripción:
Anfotericina B es un agente antifúngico polieno que se utiliza principalmente para tratar infecciones fúngicas graves, particularmente aquellas causadas por especies de Candida y Aspergillus. Se deriva de la bacteria Streptomyces nodosus y es conocido por su capacidad para unirse al ergosterol, un componente clave de las membranas celulares fúngicas, lo que lleva a la interrupción de la membrana celular y, en última instancia, a la muerte celular. Anfotericina B se caracteriza por su color marrón amarillento y se administra típicamente por vía intravenosa debido a su baja biodisponibilidad oral. Tiene un peso molecular relativamente alto y es soluble en dimetilsulfóxido (DMSO) y otros disolventes orgánicos, pero poco soluble en agua. El fármaco es conocido por sus posibles efectos secundarios, incluyendo nefrotoxicidad y reacciones relacionadas con la infusión, lo que requiere un monitoreo cuidadoso durante el tratamiento. Anfotericina B se utiliza a menudo en casos severos donde otros tratamientos antifúngicos pueden ser ineficaces, lo que lo convierte en una opción crítica en el manejo de infecciones fúngicas invasivas.

    <p>Amphotericin B is a macrocycle antibiotic first isolated from Streptomyces nodosus. Its antifungal activity is exerted by interacting with the fungal membrane, mainly ergosterol, and inducing pore formation. The increase in membrane permeability causes loss of ions and cell death. The C-2’ hydroxyl residue of the mycosamine carbohydrate moiety in the structure seems to have a major role in binding to ergosterol. It is used in cell culture to prevent growth of microbial contaminants, such as yeast and fungi. It is recommended by the WHO and CDC as an antifungal component for VTM at a concentration of 250ug/ml.</p>
