Azul de tetrazolio, también conocido como cloruro de 2,3,5-trifeniltetrazolio (TTC), es un compuesto químico comúnmente utilizado en aplicaciones biológicas y bioquímicas, particularmente en ensayos de viabilidad celular. Es un indicador redox que experimenta un cambio de color al ser reducido, convirtiéndose de una forma soluble amarilla a un producto de formazán rojo insoluble en presencia de células viables. Esta propiedad lo hace útil para evaluar la actividad metabólica en organismos vivos, ya que solo las células metabólicamente activas pueden reducir la sal de tetrazolio. Azul de tetrazolio se utiliza típicamente en microbiología, histología y diversas aplicaciones de investigación para evaluar la proliferación celular y la citotoxicidad.
