CAS:Cyclopropanemethanol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of organic compounds. It is a colorless liquid that can be prepared by reacting hydrochloric acid with cyclopropane. Cyclopropanemethanol has been shown to exhibit antiviral activity against virus type-1, which is due to its ability to inhibit replication. This reaction is thought to occur through inhibition of the CB2 receptor in the host cell membrane, which blocks the virus from entering the cell. The intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and chlorine atom is also thought to play a role in this process. Cyclopropanemethanol has been shown to inhibit replication of hepatitis C virus and HIV-1, but not HIV-2 or SIV. It has also been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects and can inhibit histamine release from mast cells in humans.
