2-(4-Nitrophenyl)furan is a synthetic drug that inhibits the growth of Leishmania and Podophyllotoxin. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of hepg2 cells in vitro, which may be due to its binding to hepg2 cell DNA. 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)furan also has an antifungal effect by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)furan is also anticancerous, as it inhibits the growth of rat liver microsomes and biphenyl induced tumors in rats. The drug has a low toxicity in humans, with no significant toxicity seen for up to 24 hours after administration. This drug is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and eliminated from the body primarily through urine.
