The proline-rich region of ORG 25543 was shown to bind to the NMDA receptor and may be responsible for its antipsychotic effects. Monitoring of clinical response is performed by measuring the level of proline at baseline, after one week, and then again after two weeks. This drug is also being investigated as a diagnostic tool for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
