N-Acetil-L-cisteína (NAC) es un derivado del aminoácido cisteína, caracterizado por la adición de un grupo acetilo al átomo de nitrógeno de la cadena lateral de cisteína. Es un polvo cristalino blanco a blanco amarillento que es soluble en agua y tiene un sabor ligeramente amargo. Se conoce que el NAC tiene propiedades antioxidantes, principalmente debido a su capacidad para reponer los niveles intracelulares de glutatión, un antioxidante crítico en el cuerpo.
