Dihydromorphine monohydrate is an oxidizing agent that can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It is a n-oxide of morphine and encompasses the oxidation of the n-substituted morphine. Dihydromorphine monohydrate has been shown to catalyze the oxidation of alcohols, amines, phenols, nitriles, and quaternary ammonium compounds. The oxidation process occurs by adding dihydromorphine monohydrate to the reactant at room temperature and then heating it to about 130°C for about 20 minutes. Dihydromorphine monohydrate is highly soluble in water and is stable under normal conditions.
