    5-Fluoro-3-methyl-2-nitrobenzoic acid (5FMNB) is a sulfilimine that has been used as an insecticide. It has been shown to have both structural and functional properties, which make it an appealing compound for use in the discovery of new organosulfur compounds with insecticidal properties. 5FMNB is a white solid that is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and chloroform. The compound can be synthesized by reacting 5-fluoro-3-methylpyridine with nitromethane and sulfuric acid. 5FMNB has been found to have high activity against aphids, thrips, leafhoppers, and other insects. However, it does not show any toxicity against mammals or fish.
