CAS:3-(2-Methoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-ol is an extract from leaves of Tectona grandis. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria associated with acne, including Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. 3-(2-Methoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-ol has also been shown to have strong antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Aspergillus fumigatus. The antibacterial activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial fatty acid biosynthesis by inhibiting enzymes such as 3 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase or acetoacetyl CoA reductase.
