27-Alkyne cholesterol is a hydrophobic molecule that is synthesized by the biosynthetic pathway starting from 27-hydroxycholesterol. It has been observed that this compound has gene regulatory effects on intestinal cells as well as on gene expression in the phospholipid bilayer. The repressor protein binds to 27-alkynes and prevents transcription of genes involved in cholesterol synthesis.
