(R)-BINAP is an analytical reagent that is used for the determination of tiglic acid in reaction solution. This reagent acts as a chelate ligand and binds to nitrogen atoms, which are required for the formation of tiglic acid. The reaction is based on kinetic data, which show that (R)-BINAP has potent inhibitory properties. It also shows a kinetic data, which indicates that the inhibition is reversible and competitive. The mechanism of this inhibition is not well understood, but it may be due to a solid catalyst or trifluoroacetic acid.
