Descripción

Maoecrystal B is a diterpene that inhibits the biosynthesis of ent-kaurane diterpenoids. Maoecrystal B has been shown to be a potent antioxidant that prevents lipid peroxidation in cells by inhibiting oxidative enzymes. Maoecrystal B also induces apoptosis in some cancer cells and has an inhibitory effect on the growth of k562 cells. It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis, which could be due to its ability to bind to ribosomes and prevent them from forming peptide bonds with amino acids. The expression of maoecrystal B is localized in the roots of Labiatae plants, such as Isodon, and is thought to play an important role in the production of secondary metabolites.
