Pazufloxacin mesylate is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Pazufloxacin mesylate has been shown to have a synergistic effect with other antibiotics. It has been shown to be effective against a number of human pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Pazufloxacin mesylate is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. The inhibition of cell division by pazufloxacin mesilate may be due to the inhibition of rna synthesis and protein synthesis. This antibiotic also causes a decrease in locomotor activity in mice, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators
