S-Methyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide is a model system for the study of fatty acid metabolism, which can be used to identify and quantify the enzyme activities of hydrochloric acid, such as lipases. This compound is also used to study the bacterial strain, group P2. S-Methyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide has been shown to stimulate plant physiology and has been proposed as a sample preparation agent for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The analytical method is based on LC-MS/MS with nitrogen atoms.
