• Descripción: Motexafin lutetium hydrate is a radioactive drug that is used in the diagnosis of skin cancer. The drug binds to the chemoattractant protein CXCL1 and pro-apoptotic protein BID, leading to the accumulation of these proteins at the mitochondria membrane potential. This accumulation induces apoptosis by inhibiting mitochondrial activity. Motexafin lutetium hydrate has also been shown to be effective against a number of bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Enterococcus faecalis, and Escherichia coli. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in animal models, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
