Descripción:Methapyrilene fumarate is a synthetic maleate salt of methapyrilene. This drug is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It has been shown to have an effect on the microvasculature, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of nitric oxide and other vasoactive substances from endothelial cells. Methapyrilene fumarate also inhibits the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue and ephedrine hydrochloride from catecholamines from adrenal medulla cells. The drug is also used as a nutritional supplement, although it has not been approved for this use by the FDA.
