Micafungin impurity B has been shown to be the primary metabolite of micafungin in humans and is excreted in the urine and feces. Metabolism studies have shown that it may be formed by oxidation of the hydroxyl group at position C-3 or by hydrolysis of the amide bond between carbons C-4 and C-5.
