It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and cell growth in vitro and in vivo. N-desmethyl sorafenib has been shown to inhibit the activity of methionine adenosyltransferase, leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis. The chemical properties are similar to those of other drugs that have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
