• Descripción: Maropitant citrate is a drug that has been shown to have clinical relevance in the treatment of chronic cough. It is a neurokinin-1 receptor antagonist that binds to the NK-1 receptor and blocks the effects of substance P. Maropitant citrate is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. The terminal half-life of maropitant citrate is approximately 14 hours. The drug has low bioavailability due to its poor water solubility and high lipid solubility. This may be because it has a long fatty acid side chain that prevents its lipophilic properties from being fully utilized.
