It is found in urine samples and can be quantified by liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. 2-(((Hydroxy-4-methyloctyl)oxy)carbonyl)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid has been shown to cause cancer in animals and newborns, as well as to inhibit male reproductive development in humans. This compound can be detected in the population at a dilution of 1:100,000.
