Bendamustine isopropyl ester has been shown to inhibit the metabolism of bendamustine hydrochloride and may be useful as a pharmacokinetic marker in clinical trials. Bendamustine isopropyl ester metabolizes into bendamustine hydroxypyridinium salt, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
