Descripción:9-Hydroxymethyl-10-carbamoylacridan is an active metabolite of carbamazepine. It is a potent competitive inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to increased levels of acetylcholine in the human brain and causes decreased seizure threshold. 9-Hydroxymethyl-10-carbamoylacridan can be found in wastewater and it has been detected in the water supply and in human serum. 9-Hydroxymethyl-10-carbamoylacridan is also present in human urine and can be detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This compound has been shown to cause epileptic seizures in humans.
