• Descripción: 6-Hydroxy melatonin is a metabolite of the hormone melatonin. It is used as a research and development impurity standard for drug product, as well as a custom synthesis. 6-Hydroxy melatonin is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan, which is converted to serotonin in the pineal gland by the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase. This conversion occurs through two steps: tryptophan hydroxylase converts tryptophan to 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), and then 5-hydroxytryptamine to 6-hydroxytryptamine (6-OHMT). 6-OHMT can be methylated to form 6-methoxyindoleacetic acid (6-MITA) or oxidized to form melatonin.
