It is a metabolite of quetiapine, an antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. 2-(2-(4-(Dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepin-11-yl)piperazin-1-yl)ethoxy)ethyl acetatequetiapine acetate has been shown to be more potent than quetiapine in inhibiting dopamine release in rat brain synaptosomes and dopamine transporter activity in human cells. This compound also inhibits the binding of ligands to the serotonin transporter at higher concentrations than those required for inhibition of dopamine uptake.
