• Descripción: Tiagabine is an ester hydrochloride that is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Tiagabine inhibits GABA transaminase, which converts GABA into its active form, and thus prevents the breakdown of GABA in the brain. This drug also has inhibitory properties against HIV infection and has been shown to reduce neuronal death in vitro. Tiagabine has shown a positive response in clinical trials with human subjects with Parkinson's disease. Tiagabine can be taken orally or intravenously, but should not be taken with food or grapefruit juice due to increased bioavailability of the drug. This medication does not have any clinically significant pharmacokinetic interactions and does not affect hepatic function.
