It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of fosinopril sodium, a drug used for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. Trans-4-Cyclohexyl-L-proline also has shown potential use as an antimicrobial agent. It can act as a nucleophilic agent, reacting with chloride ions to form an alkylating agent. The chlorinated product can undergo hydrolysis by hydrochloric acid to yield c1-4 alkyl chloride and hydrogen chloride.
