Graphitic carbon nitride is a material that has been shown to be effective as a photocatalyst for the treatment of wastewater. It absorbs UV light and converts it into visible light, which in turn generates energy that can break down organic contaminants in wastewater. Graphitic carbon nitride also has a high water permeability, allowing water vapor to diffuse through its porous structure. The photocatalytic activity of graphitic carbon nitride is related to the presence of hydrogen fluoride on its surface and the reaction mechanism is dependent on the presence of sodium citrate.
