CAS :Produit contrôléPropoxate is a pharmaceutical excipient that has been used in the manufacturing of dosage forms. It is also used as an antimicrobial agent for human serum and other biological fluids. Propoxate inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to fatty acids, which are important for cell membrane structure and function. This compound can be prepared by chromatographic methods, such as preparative thin-layer chromatography or high-performance liquid chromatography. Propoxate can be reconstituted with water or ethanol to form a solution that is often used in analytical methods, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Propoxate has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, but not gram-negative organisms like Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The mechanism of action for propoxate is not well understood;
