Description :
Gadolinium est un métal rare de couleur argentée, malléable et ductile, classé sous la série des lanthanides dans le tableau périodique. Il a le numéro atomique 64 et est connu pour ses propriétés magnétiques uniques, en particulier sa capacité à devenir ferromagnétique à température ambiante, ce qui est relativement rare parmi les lanthanides. Gadolinium est hautement réactif, surtout sous forme de poudre, et peut s'oxyder rapidement lorsqu'il est exposé à l'air, formant une couche d'oxyde protectrice. Il a un point de fusion élevé et est souvent utilisé dans diverses applications, y compris en imagerie par résonance magnétique (IRM) comme agent de contraste en raison de ses propriétés paramagnétiques. De plus, les composés de Gadolinium sont utilisés dans des applications de capture de neutrons et comme phosphores dans certains types d'écrans.
