It has been shown that this compound binds to the estrogen receptor, which mediates its effects in a similar manner as natural estrogens. Diethylstilbestrol-d8 is also used to determine if the estrogen receptors are present in a sample. This can be done by measuring the response of cells to diethylstilbestrol-d8 or by measuring its binding to any receptor sites in a sample.
