CAS :Chlorotoxin is a neurotoxic peptide that belongs to the class of macrocyclic lactones. It was originally isolated from the venom of the deathstalker scorpion, Leiurus quinquestriatus, which is found in North Africa. Chlorotoxin has potent immunosuppressive and cytotoxic effects that are mediated by its ability to bind to ion channels in cell membranes through disulfide bonds. This peptide induces apoptosis and inhibits tumor growth in mice by targeting cancer cells and inducing cell death.
