Description

9-Deoxo-9a-aza-9a-homo erythromycin A is a semisynthetic derivative of erythromycin. It has been synthesized by using a template molecule that has been modified by replacing the 9-hydroxyl group with a 9-deoxy group. This precursor undergoes a series of reactions to yield 9-deoxo-9a-aza-9a-homo erythromycin A. The synthesis of this molecule was achieved in three steps, starting with an N-(2′,4′,6′)-trichloroacetimidate intermediate and ending with the desired product. 9DEOEA has shown antimicrobial efficacy against Gram positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
