4-(tert-Butyl)-2-methylphenol is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It has been shown to be a good fluorescence detector in the functional theory of organic chemistry. 4-(tert-Butyl)-2-methylphenol has a hydroxyl group and interacts with an electron donor, such as hexahydrate zirconium, through hydrogen bonding. The thermodynamic properties of this compound have been studied by examining its oxime derivatives. Polyethylene glycols are also capable of binding with 4-(tert-butyl)-2-methylphenol, which can be used to study molecular modelling and crystallography.
