a-Carotene is a carotenoid, which is a type of pigment found in plants. It can be converted to vitamin A and it has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer. α-Carotene is one of the most common carotenoids, but it is not as easily absorbed by the body as other carotenoids. α-Carotene is found in high concentrations in carrots, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes.
