Azadirachtin B is an alkylsulfonyl-containing compound that is a growth regulator. It has been shown to be effective in controlling the spread of insects and has potential for use as a pesticide. Azadirachtin B exhibits cytotoxic effects on insect cells through hydrogenated fatty acid radicals, which are generated by the interaction of azadirachtin B with the free hydroxyl group on cell membranes. It also exhibits cytotoxic effects against cancer cells in vitro. Azadirachtin B can be synthesized from the natural triterpenoid, azadirachtin A, using analytical methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry or nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The stereoisomers of azadirachtin B can be differentiated by their melting points and chemical shifts in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry analyses.
