N-Methylsaccharin is a bicyclic heterocycle that is an inhibitor of methyl anthranilate, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of fatty acids. It also inhibits the proteolytic activity of bowel disease, which may be due to its carbonyl group. The nitrogen atoms on N-methylsaccharin are able to form hydrogen bonds with the active site in the enzyme and can inhibit the reaction mechanism. N-methylsaccharin has been shown to have a redox potential, making it useful in treating chronic bronchitis. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties, which are thought to be due to its ability to neutralize hydrochloric acid and decrease inflammation.
