It can be extracted from plant tissues by solid phase microextraction (SPME) and its presence has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of bacteria. Methyl myristate is also a bioactive phytochemical with antioxidant properties. The effects of methyl myristate on coronary heart diseases are unclear, but it does reduce the activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes and may have some toxicity issues.
