It is used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives. 3MPQCA can be synthesized by reacting 2,3,4,5,6 tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene with 8-(quinolin-8-ylsulfanyl)quinoline and sodium hydroxide in ethanol. The reaction can be performed in one step or two steps depending on the desired yield.
